My mom had emergency brain surgery on Friday to remove a tumor.  Needless to say the weekend was a bit of a turmoil.   Amazingly, she is now home, functioning as her normal self, and is as fine as she is going to be.  The beginning of a new journey.

I think, no matter what kind of relationship you have with your parents, envisioning a life with them no longer in it is shocking.  It is up there with learning that your parents had sex to make you and discovering that not only are they human but that they are also fallible.  This weekend made me face that my mom’s expiration maybe sooner than later.  Vague concepts become concrete and smack you upside the head.
